Courteous Canine Philosophy
Courteous Canine employs positive, reward-based training methods. Our focus is to teach the pup the desired behavior in a given situation, and then reward generously, rather than to focus on correcting “wrong” behavior.
Dogs repeat behaviors that are rewarding, and avoid behaviors that are not! By learning how to
manage reinforcements in your dog’s life, you help teach your dog to offer certain behaviors in pursuit of rewards and privileges. Shock collars are never used.
In-Home Training
Training takes place primarily in your home, at your convenience. This allows your dog (and you) to feel secure and calm in a familiar environment, and saves you time. Plus, it helps us address directly behaviors that are happening specifically in your home or with your family members.
Starting Early—Puppy Training
Courteous Canine can give valuable advice on choosing the right breed for you and your family, preparing the home for pup’s arrival, and how/when to start socializing and training your new family member. Early education is best!! We believe in teaching appropriate behaviors at a very young age when possible, before inappropriate ones become habit. Make the most of puppyhood—use guidance and rewards to help your puppy make the right choices from day one!

So your adult dog is untrained and ill-mannered? There is hope! We can show you how to break the pattern of “bad” behavior, and positively shape your dog into the responsive, well-behaved pet he was meant to be. Both of you will be happier!
